With one lecture per week, the Extensive course allows students to master the basics of the Dutch language within twelve weeks. This course is available at the Absolute Beginners (A1) and Beginners (A2) level.

Would you rather have two lectures per week? Please have a look at our Semi-intensive Dutch language course. This course is available at each level up to Advanced (CEFR B2).

  • What to expect from class

    Classroom activities

The course activities are founded on various tasks. These tasks are functional, and directly linked to a concrete situation, such as ‘having conversations with people on the street’ or ‘writing a job application’. By using multi-media, the teacher provides learners with opportunities to develop the four language skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

  • Levels

This course is taught at the levels of Absolute beginners and Beginners only (CEFR* level: 0 - A2).

    Absolute Beginners (0-A1)
For those with absolutely no knowledge of Dutch.

    Beginners (A1-A2)
For those who understand some Dutch, but cannot yet make themselves understood in the language.

  • Level Assessment

Before the beginning of a course, the INTT organises a level assessment for new participants to assess their level of proficiency in Dutch.

Participants who pass the examination at the end of their course may continue with the course at the next level without taking another level assessment.

  • Textbooks

The textbook and weblicense of the method of CODE+ is used in class for all levels.

    • Absolute Beginners
Heijne, N.C. e.a., CODE+ deel 1 | 0‐A1, Basisleergang Nederlands voor anderstaligen, Thieme Meulenhoff, Amersfoort 2018. (textbook + web license).
    • Beginners
Heijne, N.C. e.a., CODE+ deel 2 | A1‐A2, Basisleergang Nederlands voor anderstaligen, Thieme Meulenhoff, Amersfoort 2018. (textbook + web license).

  • Terms and Conditions

The course fee covers access to the UvA computers and Canvas, the digital learning environment at the UvA. The course fee does not cover the textbooks. Students need to buy a textbook and weblicense of the method: Heijne, N.C. e.a., Code + , Basisleergang Nederlands voor anderstaligen, Takenboek parts 1 - 4.

When there are fewer than ten applicants for a group, the group will be cancelled. Those who have already paid the course fee will naturally be completely refunded.

A refund is only possible if a written cancellation (by letter or by email) is received at least four weeks before the start of the course. A 10% administration charge will be deducted from each refund.

If environmental conditions change throughout the course term and on-campus classes are no longer viable, INTT will move to online classes to allow you to continue the course.
