Our peer writing tutors are students with proven academic writing skills who have been trained to coach other students.
Here are a few of the things our tutors can help you with:
What to expect
You will send in a few pages of your draft text or plan/outline to your tutor to read at least 24 hours before your appointment, stating what particular aspects or problems you would like to focus on (approximately 1500 words) so your tutor can prepare. During the appointment, you will discuss part(s) of your text or plans in detail. Your tutor will work with you to help you clarify what you want to say, organize your text, and work on your writing skills more generally.
If necessary, you can book one or more follow-up appointments. There is a limit of 3 appointments per text.
The appointment can take place either online or on location. Your tutor will discuss with you upfront where the meeting will take place.
What not to expect
Please note that the Writing Centre is not a proofreading or editing service. The aim is to help students become better writers. This means your tutor will not correct or edit your text; rather, they will ask questions to help you work on your text and ultimately improve your writing process.
We do not provide support for take-home exams or CVs.
No-shows
If you can no longer make it to an appointment you booked, we kindly ask you to get in touch with your tutor as soon as possible to avoid wasting their time.
Please note: These sessions are intended for working on English texts only. If you wish to work on a Dutch text, please check our Dutch services.
You will have to log in with your UvAnetID to make an appointment. If any errors occur, try using the Edge browser.
